balance

life is way too short to be worrying about soap scum buildup. i fully believe that we need to balance the amount of time spent on horribly mundane (albeit necessary) tasks...i.e. waiting in line at the post office, wiping the gunk from inside the microwave, shaving our legs...with equally pleasurable activities, such as throwing paper airplanes, skipping rocks, playing candyland. and i strongly encourage you to combine them whenever possible, say...throwing paper airplanes while in line at the post office???

i want to encourage you to bring more fun into your daily life--small ways to increase your enjoyment of life's necessary evils and create more time for playful endeavors. for many of us, it's easy to fall into a routine where we are focused 100% on our career, our family, our volunteer hours, our labradoodle...and not ourselves. when you look at your priority list, do you see the category "fun" listed? this should be your first clue. and when you open your dayplanner/ iPhone/outlook calendar, do you have time set aside to play?

i hope you will begin to explore ways to create more balance in your life, and in doing so--begin to savor every moment. it wasn't until my sister's death that i learned this invaluable lesson...the ability to be truly present in my life and find beauty in the mundane. i have learned not to take anything for granted, not a happy past or a hopeful future, that all we have is today. and to balance the stress of everyday living in 2010...we must retaliate with large doses of fun. if my grief has taught me anything, it's that life is too short to pass up a chance to blow bubbles in the sunshine.

we need to invite fun into our lives...learn to say "yes" more often. when your friend/co-worker/significant other asks you wanna go to the concert/new lunch bistro/beach, and you really need to be cleaning the bathroom...
say yes.
